Dear ACS Community,
As we start our second week of hybrid school at ACS, we want to thank all of you who have provided us with feedback on our programs. A significant fraction of our community responded. If you have not done so yet, you can find the link on the cougar hub. I would like to share a few results from that survey with you.
You may recall that we asked about three measures about balance. They focused on communication, workload, and the balance between anytime and real-time activities. About as many of you felt we had too much communication this week as felt that we had too little. The same was true of the workload for students. The majority thought the balance was about right for both of these measures. The balance between any-time and real-time work showed the common desire to have students back real-time in the classroom. Finally, the measures of quality showed that most of you are happy with teacher effort, academic learning, and student wellbeing.
Although the overall picture was quite positive, we appreciate the detailed comments that many of you left for us. In many cases, these pointed toward areas of improvement. There were, for instance, many suggestions for us to improve the hybrid modality especially for those students who were online. Many comments described a difficult and frustrating experience for students connecting from home while their peers were at school.
We will be sharing your comments with our teachers as we work with them to investigate options for improving the experience of students both at home and at school. While the hybrid model around the world has proven to be the most difficult, we will work together to optimize it for our community. As the year progresses, I will frequently remind you about the survey. We will keep the questions the same so that we can monitor changes in the results over time. I'll also periodically share what we have learned from your collective wisdom.
This week, as we promised, we would like to ask you whether you prefer to take advantage of the hybrid model or have your child only learn virtually for the period from the 13th of September until the 8th of October. Please complete the form linked to my message to indicate your preference for each of your children. If you will be sending a child to school for the first time, you will also need to complete the cougar caring commitment and informed consent form linked to my message. For now, we will not be requiring an additional COVID-19 test if your child has already had one to come to school, but our plans do call for another round of testing after the October break.
We also plan to introduce some additional services on September 13th. The bus service run by Don Lucio will begin if there is sufficient interest. Currently, there is not. In addition, we are working with a partner to provide a bagged lunch service. More details should be available from our partner soon. Finally, we plan to start after school activities on the 13th of September. The first step in that process is to gauge interest in the program. If you are interested, please use the form linked to my message to express that interest. The program will be a recreational one designed to optimally but safely use our facilities to involve as many students as possible.

Al comenzar nuestra segunda semana de instrucción semipresencial en ACS, queremos agradecerles a todos los que nos han brindado comentarios acerca de nuestros programas. Una parte significativa de nuestra comunidad ha respondido a la encuesta. Si aún no lo ha hecho, puede encontrar el enlace aqui y en el Cougar Hub. Me gustaría compartir con ustedes algunos de los resultados de esta encuesta.
Como recordará hemos preguntado acerca de tres medidas de equilibrio. Estas medidas se centran en la comunicación, la carga de trabajo y el equilibrio entre las actividades que se realizan en cualquier momento y en tiempo real. Algunos de ustedes sintieron que tuvimos demasiada comunicación durante esta semana cómo algunos sintieron que tuvimos muy poca. Lo mismo ocurre con la carga de trabajo a los alumnos, la mayoría pensó que el equilibrio era el adecuado para ambas medidas. El equilibrio entre la instrucción en cualquier momento y en tiempo real nos ha mostrado el deseo común de que los alumnos regresen a clases en tiempo real. Finalmente las medidas de calidad mostraron que la mayoría de ustedes están contentos con el esfuerzo de los profesores, el aprendizaje académico y el bienestar de los alumnos.
Aunque el panorama general fue bastante positivo, agradecemos los comentarios en detalle que algunos de ustedes nos hicieron saber. En muchos casos, estos apuntaron a áreas en las que podemos mejorar. Hubo, por ejemplo, muchas sugerencias para mejorar la modalidad semipresencial, especialmente para aquellos alumnos que siguen clases en forma virtual. Muchos comentarios hacen referencia a una experiencia difícil y frustrante para los alumnos que se conectaban desde sus casas mientras sus compañeros estaban fisicamente en el colegio.
Compartiremos sus comentarios con los profesores para trabajar con ellos y revisar opciones para mejorar la experiencia de los alumnos tanto en casa como en el colegio. Si bien el modelo semipresencial en todo el mundo ha demostrado ser el más difícil, trabajaremos junto con la comunidad para optimizarlo.
A medida que avanza el año, le mandaremos una encuesta cada semana. Mantendremos las preguntas iguales para que podamos monitorear los cambios en los resultados a lo largo del tiempo. También compartiré periódicamente los resultados de sus sabias respuestas.
Esta semana, como hemos prometido, nos gustaría saber si le gustaría aprovechar la instrucción semipresencial o que su hijo(a) solo aprenda de forma virtual durante el período comprendido entre el 13 de septiembre y el 8 de octubre. Por favor complete el formulario vinculado a mi mensaje para indicar su preferencia por cada unos de sus hijo(a)s. Si usted desea enviar a su hijo(a) al colegio por primera vez, también deberá completar el formulario de Cougar Consentimiento y Compromiso de Cuidado vinculado a este mensaje. Por ahora, no necesitaremos una prueba adicional de COVID-19 si su hijo(a) ya se la ha hecho una para venir al colegio, pero nuestros planes requieren otra ronda de pruebas después de las vacaciones de octubre.
También planeamos introducir algunos servicios adicionales el día13 de septiembre. El servicio de autobuses de Don Lucio comenzará si tenemos suficiente interés. Actualmente no tenemos el interés suficiente. Además, estamos trabajando con un socio para el servicio de almuerzos embolsados. Pronto tendremos más detalles al respecto. Finalmente, planeamos comenzar las actividades extracurriculares el día 13 de septiembre. El primer paso en este proceso es medir el interés en el programa.
